Making Manitoba a Better Place Now and in the Future

Youth

Manitoba's growing economy offers training and job opportunities for youth, a great incentive to stay here. More youth are working today than at any time during the last decade. Red River College reports that 92% of its employed graduates stay in Manitoba.

Since 2000, when the college and university tuition was cut by 10%, university enrolment has surged by more than one-third. Tuition revenue is up an average of 50% due to the large number of students. Bursaries, scholarships, student financial assistance and incentive programs allow Manitobans to study in their own province in preparation for employment in the expanding economy.

Since 1999, there are 1,200 more apprenticeship training opportunities, bringing the number of active apprenticeships to 5,094.

Manitoba has the fastest-growing life sciences sector in Canada, with 40 companies employing 4,000 people at wages averaging $50,000 to $60,000 per year.

Manitoba has become the fastest growing film centre in Canada, and is developing an international reputation for video-game creation.

In addition to job opportunities and access to affordable education, young people look for vibrant communities to live in. The new MTS Centre is a great example of the revitalization taking place in our neighbourhoods and urban centres. Other attractions are the refurbished Millenium Library, expanded West End Cultural Centre, redeveloped Keystone Centre, new skateboard plaza at The Forks and revitalized Waterfront Drive.
